Why Patients Travel

Why South Central PA
Travels for This

South Central Pennsylvania offers many capable general dentists, but complex reconstruction may require a prosthodontist-led full-mouth team. At our Leesburg office, restorative planning is coordinated with oral surgery, dedicated anesthesia support, and laboratory services.

Without that coordination, patients may move between several offices for extractions, implant placement, restorative design, and fabrication. Each provider can perform an important part, yet communication becomes harder when no single team oversees how those parts fit together.

Our destination program reduces that burden. Records review and consultations begin remotely; appropriate in-person phases are organized into a focused trip, and lodging assistance helps make the travel from Franklin, Adams, Cumberland, or Fulton County more manageable.

“Placing implants is a step. Rebuilding a bite is the result. Those are not the same procedure, and they should not be spread across four offices.”

Candidacy

Is the Drive
Worth It for You?

Travel is generally considered for complex, full-arch needs rather than routine care that can be completed near home. An evaluation may be worthwhile if:

  • You have been told most or all of your teeth need to be replaced
  • Crowns, bridges or old restorations are failing across multiple teeth
  • You were quoted implants, but nobody explained the final teeth
  • You have significant bone loss, or were told you are not a candidate
  • Your bite, speech or facial support has changed as teeth were lost
  • You want an anesthesiologist present, not just local anesthetic
  • You want one team accountable from surgery through the final teeth
  • You would rather do this once, properly, than in stages over years

Patients travel to us from Chambersburg, Waynesboro, Greencastle, Mercersburg, Shippensburg, Gettysburg and McConnellsburg. Lodging at Carradoc Hall in Leesburg is coordinated for you and one accompanying family member.

How It Works

Everything Remote
Until It Cannot Be

Most preliminary steps can be completed from home in Pennsylvania. Travel begins only after the available records have been reviewed and the proposed visit has been organized.

1

Call to Prequalify

Begin by explaining your current dental condition, previous recommendations, and priorities. We use that conversation to decide whether the destination program appears relevant before asking you to travel.

10–15 minutes · by phone
2

Remote Consultation With Your Treatment Coordinator

Your coordinator collects health and treatment history, explains the travel process, and identifies which records and images the clinical team needs for an initial review.

Video call · no travel
3

Send Your X-Rays and CT Scan

Recent X-rays and a CBCT scan may be sent securely for review. If updated imaging is necessary, the coordinator can help identify an option closer to your Pennsylvania home.

From home
4

Remote Consultation With the Doctor

Meet by video with the prosthodontist to review available findings, discuss realistic goals, and understand the proposed reconstruction - including whether immediate temporary teeth may be appropriate.

Video call · with the doctor
5

Medical Review and Fees in Writing

The team evaluates medical history, medications, and anesthesia considerations, then documents the treatment sequence and fees so you can make an informed decision before the trip.

A meaningful full-mouth estimate depends on bone volume, required grafting, the number of implants, and the selected restoration. After records review, we provide a case-specific range and confirm the final fee before you decide whether to travel.

Our office at 1602 Village Market Blvd. SE in Leesburg is roughly 80 miles from Chambersburg - about a 1 hour 40 minute drive. Gettysburg is closer at about 1 hour 20 minutes, and McConnellsburg is the longest at about 1 hour 55 minutes. Most patients from the region drive down the evening before and stay overnight rather than driving the morning of surgery.
No - that is the entire point of how this program is built. Prequalification, your coordinator consult, imaging review and the doctor consult all happen remotely before you ever get in the car. The in-person portion is sequenced into one coordinated trip, because our surgeon, anesthesiologist and laboratory are all in the same building.
That is common and it is not a problem. If you already have a recent CBCT scan and X-rays, send them and we plan directly from those. If you do not, your coordinator arranges the imaging at a facility near you in Franklin, Adams or Cumberland County, so you still are not driving to Virginia just for a scan.
We coordinate lodging at Carradoc Hall in Leesburg, a short drive from the office, for you and one accompanying family member. Your concierge books it around your surgical schedule so the timing lines up with your appointments and your post-operative check.
Yes, and we strongly encourage it. Anyone having sedation needs a responsible adult to travel with them, and the lodging program is designed for the patient plus one accompanying family member. Your companion is welcome in consultations so you both hear the same plan.
A dedicated anesthesiologist is present and monitoring you for the duration of the surgical appointment - that is not typical in a general dental office, and it is a large part of why the full surgical phase can be safely consolidated. Before we schedule, we complete a medical review and anesthesia clearance, and we will not proceed on a single-visit plan if your health history says it should be staged.
Implant placement is a surgical step; full-mouth reconstruction is the whole result. Many patients arrive having had implants placed with no plan for what the final teeth would look like or how the bite would work. Here the prosthodontist designs the final teeth first and the surgery serves that design, with one team accountable from the first extraction through the last adjustment.
Call (571) 455-0466 and ask to prequalify for the destination program. You will get a straight answer about whether you are a candidate, and a written treatment plan with the fee before you commit to travelling. We would rather tell you on the phone that we are not the right fit than have you drive down to find out.
