Dental Bonding: A Simple Way to Refresh Your Smile
Bonding is one of the quickest, most conservative cosmetic treatments available. Here is what it can fix and what to expect.

Dental bonding uses a tooth-colored composite resin that is shaped directly on the tooth and hardened with a light. It requires little or no removal of natural tooth structure and is often finished in one visit, which makes it one of the most approachable cosmetic treatments we offer.
What Bonding Can Fix
- Chips and small cracks. Resin fills in the missing area and is polished to blend with the tooth.
- Small gaps. Adding material to the sides of teeth can close minor spaces.
- Discoloration. Bonding can cover stains that do not respond to whitening.
- Uneven or misshapen teeth. Short, pointed, or irregular teeth can be reshaped.
- Exposed roots. Bonding can cover roots exposed by gum recession and reduce sensitivity.
What to Expect
We choose a shade that matches your teeth, lightly roughen the surface so the resin adheres, then apply and sculpt the material in layers. A curing light hardens each layer, and we finish by shaping and polishing. Most teeth take 30 to 60 minutes, and numbing is often unnecessary.
Bonding vs. Veneers
Bonding is faster, more affordable, and reversible, which makes it a great choice for small corrections. Porcelain veneers are more stain-resistant and durable and are usually better for larger changes in color or shape across several teeth.
Caring for Bonded Teeth
Composite resin can stain and chip over time. Limit coffee, tea, and red wine, avoid biting nails or hard objects, and keep up with regular cleanings. With good care, bonding typically lasts several years before it needs a touch-up.
